Before that collect the following materials!
To make onion pakodas, the following ingredients will be required:-
Ingredients for making batter:-
1 cup gram flour
2 small onions, thinly sliced
2 -3 green chillies, finely chopped (adjust as per your spice preference)
1/2 teaspoon red chili powder
1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
1/2 teaspoon cumin
a pinch of asafoetida
salt to taste
Water (about 1/2 cup)
To fry onion pakodas:-
Vegetable oil (you can also use ghee)
Step 1:- Prepare the batter for pakora
In a bowl add gram flour, red chilli powder, turmeric powder, cumin, asafoetida and salt.
Gradually add water while whisking the mixture until it becomes a smooth, lump-free batter. The consistency should be thick enough to cover the back of a spoon.
Step 2: Add onions and peppers to the batter
Add finely chopped onion and finely chopped green chillies to the batter.
Mix the ingredients slowly until the onions and peppers are evenly coated in the batter.
Keep in mind that onion and batter should be mixed well.
Step 3: Heat oil in pan:-
Pour vegetable oil into a deep frying pan. You will need enough oil to dip the pakodas.
Heat the oil over medium-high heat. To check if the oil is hot enough, drop a small amount of batter into the oil. If it starts crackling and comes to the surface, the oil is ready for frying.
Step 4: Start frying the pakodas:-
Carefully drop spoonfuls of onion and batter mixture into the hot oil. Make sure you don't overcrowd the pan.
Add at least 4-5 pakodas at a time!
Fry the pakodas until they become golden brown and crisp. Use a slotted spoon to remove them from the oil and place them on a plate lined with paper towel to drain excess oil.
Step 5: Serve the hot pakodas:-
Your crunchy onion pakodas are ready to serve. Enjoy them with mint chutney or tamarind chutney.
